What are Taquitos?

Taquitos are made from a soft taco shell that has been rolled around a delicious filling before being cooked. These are a smaller version of tacos.

While many consider the taquito to be a Mexican meal, it’s thought to have originated in the United States. Taquitos are similar to flautas, a Mexican dish, and some people use the terms interchangeably.

Taquitos are typically produced by tightly rolling a variety of ingredients in a corn tortilla before deep frying.

They’re excellent. It’s really, really good. Unfortunately, they aren’t keto-friendly, so we got creative and used something that is which is cheese wraps as the shells for taquitos.

While many people identify the taquito with Mexican cuisine, and many Mexican restaurants in Mexico and other countries offer taquitos, the delicacy is thought to have originated in the United States.

Most cooks start by cooking a filling for their taquitos. Taquitos were originally filled with shredded beef, but they can now be created with a variety of fillings. Chicken, pig, steak, cheese, veggies, or a combination of these are popular choices.

A tiny amount of filling is spooned onto a corn tortilla, which is then rolled firmly into a tube shape. This “tube” is then cooked till crisp in hot oil and served with sour cream, guacamole, and salsa as toppings.

Mexican food, particularly tacos, is one of my favorites, so when I decided to go low carb, I instantly looked for a keto taco recipe and came across cheese taco shells.

Guys, these items are life-changing! Keto Taquitos prepared with Folio’s Cheese Wraps are ideal for keto diets since they include only one net carb!

They’re gluten-free, simple to make, and I think they’re even better than the original.

Ingredients

This recipe of Canned Chicken Taquitos only requires 3 ingredients. A complete meal with just 3 ingredients!

Aside from being the easiest recipe ever, this meal also adds a ton of nutricional value to your day.

Low Carb Soft Taco Shells:

You wouldn’t want to consume more than one low carb soft taco shells while you’re on a low-carb or Keto diet.

And, given corn’s dubious reputation (it raises blood sugar levels and is frequently genetically engineered), you’d be wise to avoid it entirely.

The truth is, tacos are a food that everyone enjoys. That’s why the low-carb community came up with the brilliant concept of making cheddar tacos. Although you may create your own keto tortillas, this is an additional step in this simple keto lunch meal.

I use readymade Folio’s cheese wraps because this is a dish I prefer to cook for when I’m short on time (like a weeknight keto supper). These may be found in most grocery stores, or you can order them online.

That’s why the low-carb community came up with the brilliant concept of making cheddar tacos.

According to Carb Manager,  Low Carb Soft Taco shells (1 tortilla) contain 11g total carbs, 5g net carbs, 2g fat, 5g protein, and 81 calories. Low carb soft taco shells can be filled with meat, avocado, and finely chopped veggies, then top with soured cream or shredded cheddar cheese.

Folio’s Cheese Wraps:

I love using Folio’s Cheese wraps for this recipe of Taquitos instead of the traditional low-carb tortillas.

A low-carb, keto-friendly twist on the conventional wrap made entirely of all-natural, gently baked Parmesan Cheese sheets. These wrapped, filled, rolled, melted, and baked folios can be used to make easy keto recipes!

Parmesan Folios provide a delightful high protein wrap for these taquitos with their incredibly adaptable and distinctive sweet & nutty flavor. These Keto-friendly cheese wraps are also free of gluten.

With 13g of protein and only 1g of carbs, it’s lactose-free, gluten-free, soy-free, and made without fillers or added sugar.

Canned Chicken:

For the filling of taquitos in this recipe, we’ll be using canned chicken as the base ingredient. Canned chicken is a great, low-cost source of protein.

Because of the decreased calorie and fat content, you should choose chicken canned in water or brine rather than oil or sauces.

According to Healthline, chicken in a can has a low fat content but is abundant in protein, calcium, and vitamin D having 0 grams of total carbs and 5 grams of total fats in 85 grams.

Stovetop patties, dips, noodles, salads, soups, fillings, and quesadillas are all made easier with canned chicken. Canned chicken is fully cooked, so it’s safe to eat it without cooking.

If heated, it should be served right away or refrigerated leftovers in a container that is not made from metal.

Keto Friendly Taco Seasoning:

Making homemade no carb taco seasoning has been a life-changer for me. I put it on my tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, taquitos, and even taco salads!

Finding a keto-friendly taco seasoning that doesn’t contain cornmeal, corn starch, sugar, or any other fillers might be a nightmare if you’re on a keto diet.

Most commercial taco spices contain a lot of fillers, which are generally listed first on the ingredient list. These carbohydrate-dense fillers might ruin your low-carb attempts.

Make your own homemade taco seasoning instead, and you’ll notice a major difference in flavor without the extra carbohydrates!

This is my go-to homemade no carb taco seasoning, and it gets rave reviews from my family and friends!

I made a few changes to make the meal keto-friendly without compromising flavor. This spice blend has the ideal balance of spices, salt, and other tastes for flavoring ground beef, poultry, shrimp, and even vegetables.

Taco seasoning is just 1.5 net carbohydrates per tablespoon if you create it at home (which tastes so much better anyhow!).

No carb Taco Seasoning Ingredients:

In a mason jar or a big zip-seal bag, combine all of the spices. Close the container and shake or mix until everything is well blended.

For up to a year, store in an airtight container in a cold, dry location.

How to make it:

●  The canned chicken needs to be drained completely and seasoned first. A tablespoon of homemade no carb keto seasoning is to be used to season the chicken and mix it all well.

●  The next step is to assemble the taquitos in the Folio’s cheese wraps. A single sheet of Folio’s cheese wrap is placed on a large microwave safe plate and the chicken mixture is added in the center in a straight line across the cheese wrap.

●  This is then microwaved for only 35 seconds and rolled up into a taquito shape immediately. This step needs to be quick because the cheese wrap will hold its shape nicely when heated.

●  The same process will be repeated for as many taquitos as you wish to make. Eat with your favorite sides. Enjoy!

When you’re through, you’ll have a taquito that rivals the original! The cheesy shell is a great substitute for a crispy corn tortilla or a soft flour tortilla. You won’t miss the carbohydrates at all!

This dish is perfect for an appetizer! It can be served over shredded lettuce with Cauliflower Rice or Cabbage Rice as a side dish as well.
