Are Taco Salads Good For You?

Taco salads are basically a deconstructed taco. For the keto diet, it’s the best way to enjoy your taco on the go.

It’s super healthy with the best ingredients to replicate the taco experience without all the carbs.

Taco salads can be good for you if you stay away from carb filled dressings. Stay away from store-bought dressings, and make your own. I used a drizzle of lime and sour cream in this recipe as a dressing, and it was just right!

I also incorporated some sriracha to add some kick to it. A little bit of of salt and pepper on top doesn’t hurt either!

So if you’ve asked yourself, “are taco salads good for you?” – the answer is YES!

This recipe is totally low carb and keto-friendly with the freshest of ingredients, allowing you to enjoy taco flavor to the absolute max.

Your Choice of Meat

Personally, I LOVE ground beef, but there are also other meats you can use in this recipe. When I’m looking to eat something leaner during the day, I mix it up by using chicken or ground turkey.

They’re both great keto options that pair well with the delicious taco flavors.
You could even make your taco salad for keto with steak.

I have an excellent keto steak marinade that pairs very well with this recipe. Just skip the soy sauce on that recipe, and you’ll have a deliciously mouthwatering taco steak salad!

Homemade Taco Seasoning Recipe:

Taco seasoning is one of those things that people assume is hard to make for some reason. I first started making my keto taco seasoning because most packaged taco seasonings are full of carbs.

I couldn’t season my meat the way I wanted since I was constantly worried about the carb count. Eventually, I decided to read the taco seasoning packet, and only then did I realize that I had most of the ingredients at home!

I just went ahead and bought some cumin and chili powder (which the secret behind the meat’s taco flavor) and started mixing my taco mix.

It was such an eye-opening experience, being able to make the low carb version of the taco packets I always used to have as a kid!

All the Mexican aromas are completely there, and the flavor is just so fresh. I love it!

It only took 5 minutes, and I was able to make keto taco seasoning for a very long time. You can also store the seasoning in a container or a plastic bag, and it’ll last you an even longer time.

Why Did I Use Spinach Instead of Lettuce?

Lettuce is great for keto, but spinach is even lower in carbs. As such, you can eat a larger quantity of spinach than lettuce and still have more carbs for the rest of the day.

Romaine lettuce contains 1g net carb per 58g

Raw spinach contains 0.4g net carb per 128 cup.
